He has been in the role since overseeing the amalgamation of GFL Infrastructure, Coco Paving and Lorvin Steel earlier this year to create GIP, one of Canada’s largest infrastructure companies.
Central to the amalgamation was the integration of the health and safety system, which was achieved by ensuring that the national director of health and safety was involved in all strategic decisions on the future direction of the company.
Dover is a greatly experienced executive and was area vice-president infrastructure at Green for Life (GFL) from May 2016. His focus was on infrastructure construction, a role for which he was eminently well suited, holding a bachelor’s degree in engineering from Queen’s University, as well as being a registered professional engineer in the Province of Ontario. In addition, he holds an MBA from the Kellogg-Schulich School of Business.
In his current role, Dover spearheaded a series of initiatives which have placed fully integrated health and safety issues at the very heart of the corporate culture of GIP. This has resulted in significant benefits for all stakeholders in what is a dynamic and growing company.
Under Dover’s stewardship, maintenance of GIP’s industry leading health safety and management program is in a continuous process of refinement and evolution: his feedback and recommendations are central to its development.
A hallmark of his approach has been the embedding of health and safety in the organisation’s decision-making process, where executive level decisions are only made after consultation with the health and safety department.
Dover has also structured a fully operational health and safety department. One program championed by Dover is the Return to Work Program, which helps an employee to return to work after an incident or injury. Thanks to his deep commitment to health and safety, organizational level injury rates have been significantly reduced, with lost time injury frequency reduced to a greater extent each year. His contribution to facilitating continuous health and safety improvements led the organization to achieve COR certification and ISO45000 certification, thus allowing GIP to expand into trans-national and international markets.
His workplace safety initiatives demonstrate the seriousness of his intent. GIP issues a regular stream of newsletters complete with articles by Dover constantly reinforcing crucial safety messages.
His most significant initiative has been the GIP GFL Get Home Safe Campaign, which takes place every December. The campaign began in 2019 when he was CEO of GFL Infrastructure Group before the amalgamation forming GIP. The campaign is now in its third year and has spread across Canada.
Above all Dover believes that championing safety is a core business value and put forth his efforts to lead the GIP team to achieve optimum Health and Safety excellence in all its activities.
The best health and safety standards are achieved through a continuous process of feedback and innovation, an approach that has come to be synonymous with Christian Dover, president and chief executive officer of Green Infrastructure Partners Inc (GIP).

I co-founded Shielded Insurance Brokers with my 2 business partners in 2016. Since Shielded’s inception we have grown from a team of 3 to over 50 staff and expanded to 2 locations.
I work with my co-founders to implement strategy and leverage technology to supercharge the efficiency of an insurance brokerage. Streamlining internal procedures and identifying niche market spaces has yielded our company 100% growth rates in our earlier years as a smaller company, and 40% growth in our more recent years as a larger business.
Seeing Shielded Insurance Brokers as a finalist in the Top Brokerage award in the last 3 years, alongside myself being nominated for Young Gun the last 2 years is a testament to the hard work we have put in. Alongside many of my peers whom have also been nominated for an array of accomplishments.
It has been a challenging yet rewarding journey to grow a powerful brand in a competitive insurance space, navigating the everchanging landscape of insurers & underwriters and adapting to industry reform has been some of the challenges – however, seeing the progress of our 50 strong team makes it all worth it.
