The Lakes College Culinary Club (TLCCC) started with a team of 12 students and has now expanded to over 30 members, showcasing its continued success through participation in college events and even catering for local community organisations. This program not only imparts valuable culinary skills but also teaches the significance of community service, fosters practical abilities and cultivates a professional work ethic.
Spanning ages 11 to 18, the Culinary Club challenges students to create elaborate six-course degustation dinners and manage large-scale catering for college gatherings. focus on making best-in-class decisions that drive the company forward. A firm believer that the effects of productive teamwork can energize an organization, Dover puts the right people on the job and truly empowers them to bring their best to the business. He possesses the unique ability to keep close ties with his employees and cultivate a cohesive, team-oriented culture that continues to pay dividends to the organization.
Dover leads GIP with safety as an integral part of the business, and the team of health and safety experts he’s developed is a clear example of that commitment. He believes organizations can achieve excellent quality and productivity without compromising safety, and he works at every level of the company to prove that point. Decisions made by Dover at the executive level foster a positive safety culture within the organization and are always made after consultation with the fully operational health and safety department that he structured. Dover gives them authority to make unbiased decisions, enabling them to provide expert advice without fearing repercussions, and he focuses on embedding the health and safety team into all divisions of GIP to address project-level HSE concerns. The ultimate reporting goes to him through the area vice president of HSE, and he doesn’t hesitate to act on any opportunities or issues identified.
Dover drives strategic safety initiatives, including Safety Month programs and HSE newsletters, relying on HSE and management teams to effectively deploy and implement these initiatives in a way that is inclusive of all employees. He also strives to create an environment of continuous learning and accountability through open communication with the project and operations teams and by acting on information provided to him to enact corporate HSE changes. Dover is fully engaged in implementing the GIP Health and Safety Management Program, which is crucial to reducing injuries and increasing overall employee morale. That has been a gamechanger for GIP: organizational-level injury rates have been significantly reduced; lost time injury (LTI) frequency is reduced to a greater extent each year; and by allowing the health and safety team to manage the Return to Work program, GIP has seen an improvement in its WSIB and WCB experience rating, thus allowing GIP to qualify for tenders for which it had not previously qualified.
Dover believes that championing safety is a core business value, and his expertise and leadership drive GIP to excel, with his efforts bolstering the team to achieve optimum health and safety excellence in all its activities. Not one to just talk the talk, Dover walks the walk each and every day: he plays a key role in keeping employees safe while ensuring quality and productivity in all operations, and GIP is stronger – and safer – for it.
