Nominations The call for nominations is open to all occupational health and safety professionals, teams, companies and organizations – including industry service providers – from across Canada. Nominations are open from February 24 to May 2, 2025 11:59 pm ET. To submit a nomination, go to the Nominate page of this website. . Submissions are free of charge.
Excellence awardees were officially announced in July 2025 on the website and promoted in Canadian Occupational Safety magazine and online channels. Promo packages to leverage your achievement across your marketing and promotions will be available for purchase.
Judging All submissions from our excellence awardees are forwarded to the independent judging panel comprising esteemed experts, thought leaders and veterans in and around the occupational health and safety profession. The panel will assess and vote for their winners in each category according to the relevant category criteria. Voting will commence in August 2025 and their judgment will be impartial, balanced, incisive and fair. Any judge with a conflict of interest in a category will recuse themselves from judging that category.
Winners Using a simple points system to aggregate judges’ votes, the excellence awardee with the top score in a category will be named the winner. Winners will be announced at the awards show on October 9 2025 and on the website. They will also be promoted in Canadian Occupational Safety. Research The Canada’s Safest Employers Awards team will conduct research and draw on knowledge and information gained through Canadian Occupational Safety to verify and support nominations received. If you are successfully shortlisted, you will be invited to move to the next round and will be required to complete a more detailed submission form and an employee perception survey, which you are required to send out to your employees and meet a minimum threshold of respondents by a predetermined deadline.

At Canadian Occupational Safety, we hear from safety professionals across the country: the pride in what they’ve built, the frustration where things haven’t improved, and the determination that workplace safety must never be taken for granted. As we prepare for Canada's Safest Employers Awards 2025, I want to reflect with you on where we stand — the progress, the gaps, and the promise ahead. Across Canada, the conversation around workplace safety has widened. It’s no longer only about preventing slips and falls, or guarding against hazards on a construction site — though those remain critical. It’s also about mental health as a core part of safety programs. It’s about how hybrid work has blurred boundaries, creating new challenges for ergonomics, isolation, and fatigue. And it’s about younger workers, thousands of whom are injured each year, reminding us that education and culture are as important as compliance. This year, climate change has added new dimensions to the conversation. From wildfire smoke that choked communities in the summer, to extreme weather events disrupting operations, employers are being forced to rethink what it means to keep people safe in a changing environment. Canada's Safest Employers Awards is about recognizing those who rise to this challenge — organizations that see safety not as a checkbox but as a value that shapes every decision.
